There is no clinical proof of a cure for panic attacks, but there are success stories of people who have learned to live with their condition. Many of these people function among us without our knowing it. How can they get panic attack relief when others cannot? It is a process, not a pill, nor a trick. It requires a concentrated effort each day.
Claims of a cure for panic attacks have been around for a while, and it would be wonderful if there actually were one. The best that most sufferers can do is to treat symptoms and try to make it from one day to the next. Coping is a big mountain to climb, but it’s not an insurmountable one. When a victim completes a day without an attack, it is a victory, and when the day isn’t that good, the same victim remembers the good day. Desperation can’t remain if a person grasps the positive.
As has been discussed before, a cure is the process where some medicine, treatment, physical exercise, or transition takes the problem away permanently. When people take the polio vaccine, they do not get the disease. This is a preventative cure, performed one time. Influenza vaccines are taken every year to ward off any number of different strains of the germ. This is a preventative medicine; it is not a cure.
This is not to infer that treatments or preventive medicines are not good. Quite contrary to that, if it were not for treatments and drugs that give sick people some relief, many would not be able to survive. Relief is all that some sufferers ever hope for, and it is sad that some get so little of it.
Exactly how does the panic attack victim get relief? Antidepressants are one of the most often prescribed drugs in the United States, and probably the world, too. They are not the salvation that some choose to want them to be. They are good for temporary relief of some levels of anxiety, and even though they get a bad reputation, they can be a blessing through occasional use. The prolonged use of an antidepressant, whether it is considered addictive or not, is not a solution to anxiety.
Relaxation and controlled breathing are two great relievers. How many people are really relaxed? Even people with no anxiety disorder don’t relax as they should. The simplest things are sometimes the hardest to do. If every panic attack victim could relax and breath steadily, they would be able to reach that calm place that they seldom go.
Remove the triggers and the guns won’t go off. How great it would be to flip the switch to the generator of fear and stress. If this one thing could be accomplished without mind alteration, panic attacks would never happen. This would be the cure.
So often, we see the commercials for some wonderful product or drug expounding the great contribution it bring to our lives. The panic attack victim would love to have not only the miracle product or drug, but also the enthusiasm exuded by the person making the sale. Each little piece of comfort that the victim gets is a panic attack relief. If there is a cure, hopefully it will present itself soon.
